A senior figure in Russia’s defence establishment, Timur Ivanov, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of corruption, amid an escalating crackdown on high-level misconduct.

Former Russian Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov was convicted of corruption on Tuesday and handed a 13-year prison sentence, according to the state news agency TASS.

Ivanov was initially detained in April 2024 on allegations of accepting bribes, with prosecutors later filing additional embezzlement charges in October.

His conviction forms part of a sweeping anti-corruption drive targeting the Russian defence sector — the most extensive in years. The investigation has already led to the arrests of over a dozen individuals, including two other former deputy ministers.
