A community event turned deadly in West Valley City, Utah as gunfire erupted during a local carnival, killing three people, including an eight-month-old baby and injuring two teens, after a dispute between two groups escalated.

The incident occurred during the annual “Westfest” at Centennial Park following an altercation between two groups. Police say that as officers approached to intervene, a 16-year-old male pulled a gun and opened fire.

An 18-year-old involved in the dispute was also killed. The suspect was not hit by return fire from police but was later arrested.

Authorities report that the injured teens, shot in the arms, may not have been directly connected to the involved groups. The incident marks one of 156 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2025 so far, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
