President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. is close to a nuclear agreement with Iran, though both sides remain divided on key conditions.
President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States was getting very close to securing a nuclear deal with Iran, and Tehran had "sort of" agreed to the terms.
"We're in very serious negotiations with Iran for long-term peace," Trump said during a Gulf tour, according to AFP.
Talks in Oman between U.S. and Iranian negotiators ended on Sunday, with further discussions expected. Oil prices dropped by about $2 on hopes of a deal that could ease sanctions.
While a U.S. official said a proposal was offered to Iran during the talks, a senior Iranian official denied receiving any new plan, insisting Tehran would not compromise on its right to enrich uranium.
Iran has indicated it may limit uranium enrichment in return for sanction relief and guarantees the deal won’t be abandoned again. Disagreements remain over the terms and destination of enriched uranium stockpiles.
