The United States, along with its European allies, is finalizing a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, with a strong warning that new sanctions will be imposed on Russia if the truce is not honored, according to a French diplomatic source on Friday.

U.S. President Donald Trump called for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday, emphasizing that Washington and its allies would impose additional sanctions on Russia should the ceasefire not be respected. Trump’s call comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Ukraine has expressed its readiness to accept the U.S. proposal, signaling a willingness to de-escalate the situation. In contrast, Russia has already declared a unilateral three-day ceasefire, which began on May 8 and will last until May 10, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
