Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared on Sunday that Europe stands united in its call for genuine peace and robust security guarantees for Ukraine.
Speaking in a late video address following a high-level summit with European leaders in London, Zelenskyy emphasized that real and lasting peace hinges on concrete measures to safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty.
“There is clear support from Europe. Even greater unity, even stronger readiness for cooperation,” Zelenskyy said, highlighting that countries across the continent—including the United Kingdom, the European Union, Norway, and Türkiye—share the view that any lasting peace must be underpinned by reliable security commitments.
Zelenskyy noted that further meetings and joint initiatives are planned in the coming days and weeks, stressing the importance of diplomacy in achieving a viable peace settlement. “There will be diplomacy for peace. And for the sake of all of us standing together – Ukraine, the whole of Europe, and necessarily America,” he added.
In his remarks, Zelenskyy expressed deep gratitude for the support received from international partners. “There hasn't been a single day when we haven't felt grateful. Because this is gratitude for the preservation of our independence: our resilience in Ukraine is built upon what our partners do for us and for their own security,” he said.
The summit, hosted by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has taken on heightened significance amid recent tensions in U.S.-Ukrainian relations following a public spat at the White House. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance had sharply criticized President Zelenskyy over perceived ingratitude for American support, an exchange that further underscored the delicate balance of international alliances.
During the London meeting, Starmer unveiled plans to form a "coalition of the willing" tasked with enforcing any prospective peace deal in Ukraine—a strategy that underscores Europe's growing role in shaping the region's future. Starmer indicated that a peace plan, jointly developed by the UK and France, would soon be presented to U.S. partners as part of these efforts.
As European nations work to solidify their common positions on security and defense, Zelenskyy’s call for real peace reflects Ukraine’s ongoing determination to negotiate from a position of strength. With robust international backing, Ukrainian leaders remain hopeful that a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement is within reach, ensuring security not only for Ukraine but for the broader European continent.
