At least five people were killed and several others injured in overnight attacks across Russia and Ukraine on Sunday, 25 October, as officials reported strikes on residential areas and industrial facilities, while Moscow claimed to have targeted logistics infrastructure and a cargo vessel.

In Russia, authorities reported three deaths in the Belgorod region and two in Bryansk, while five workers were injured at an industrial facility in Perm.

Over in Ukraine, the country's State Emergency Service reported injuries in Kharkiv and Vinnytsia, including among rescue workers responding to the attacks.

Meanwhile, Moscow claimed its forces had struck a cargo vessel heading towards Ukraine's Black Sea port of Chornomorsk, alongside logistics facilities allegedly supplying Ukrainian troops. The Russian military's claims could not be independently verified.

Russia reports deaths and industrial damage

Two people were killed and 13 injured in the city of Belgorod, according to regional Governor Alexander Shuvayev, cited by Reuters. Another person was killed and one injured in a village near Shebekino.

The governor reported extensive damage including 30 apartment blocks, 35 vehicles, four houses, three administrative buildings, eight commercial premises and three social facilities.

Further north, two people were killed and two seriously injured when a Ukrainian drone struck a minibus belonging to an agricultural enterprise in the Bryansk region, citing regional authorities.

Moscow claims strikes on shipping and logistics

Beyond the reported casualties, Russia's Defence Ministry said its overnight operations targeted Ukrainian logistics infrastructure and a cargo vessel travelling towards the Black Sea port of Chornomorsk.

Moscow alleged that the vessel was carrying supplies for Ukraine's armed forces.

The ministry also reported strikes on the Epicentr logistics centre, a distribution centre and the Vasyshchevo logistics terminal in the Kharkiv region.

Russian officials claimed the facilities were being used to store military or dual-use goods intended for Ukrainian forces.

The ministry separately said Russian air defences had intercepted and destroyed 532 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones across 25 Russian regions overnight.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the Russian Defence Ministry's claims.

What the latest attacks show

Sunday's reports cover several different areas of the conflict, from drone attacks on Russian residential and industrial sites to Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.

The reported attack on a cargo vessel also brings Black Sea shipping into focus, although Moscow's claims about the vessel's cargo and the circumstances of the strike remain unverified.

The overnight exchange underscores the continuing risks to civilians, emergency responders and infrastructure on both sides of the war.
