Anti-corruption protests in Serbia expand: teachers and farmers join demonstrations

The wave of anti-corruption protests in Serbia continues to grow. On February 4, teachers and farmers joined students in an anti-government demonstration in the central city of Kragujevac. Thousands of people marched through the streets, holding banners and blowing whistles in protest.

The demonstrations began in response to a tragic incident at the Novi Sad railway station last November, where the collapse of the station’s roof claimed 15 lives. The disaster has sparked widespread outrage and triggered a political crisis in the country.

While prosecutors have charged 13 individuals in connection with the incident, protesters and opposition parties believe the real cause of the tragedy lies in government corruption and mismanagement under President Aleksandar Vučić.

Demonstrators are demanding a transparent investigation and accountability for those responsible. Protests continue to spread across Serbia, including the capital, Belgrade.
