King Charles’ younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has launched legal action against Thames Valley Police over his arrest in connection with an investigation into documents allegedly passed to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Telegraph reported on Sunday.
Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and alleged that he leaked government documents to Epstein while serving as a UK trade envoy between 2001 and 2011.
According to the Telegraph, he has asked a judge to determine whether the police action against him was lawful. He has also lodged a judicial review concerning search warrants that allowed officers to raid his home on the Sandringham Estate and his former residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
The former prince was questioned for several hours by Thames Valley Police detectives following his arrest. The force said at the time that it was investigating allegations that he had passed documents to Epstein while working as a trade envoy.
Mountbatten-Windsor has denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and said he regrets their friendship.
The reported legal action focuses on whether police acted lawfully in arresting him and obtaining the warrants used to search his properties.
Reuters said it could not immediately verify the Telegraph report. Thames Valley Police and Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The investigation stems from documents released by the U.S. Justice Department concerning Epstein, whose connections with politicians, business figures and members of the British establishment have drawn renewed scrutiny.
Mountbatten-Windsor stepped down from royal duties in 2019 amid scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein. He was later stripped of his royal titles and honours by King Charles following further revelations about the relationship.
