President Trump signed an order to declassify files on the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK, urging swift plans for their release within 15 to 45 days.
On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order concerning the declassification of files related to the assassinations of former President John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., according to an aide.
"A lot of people are waiting for this for long, for years, for decades," he told reporters.
Trump directed his aide to present the pen he used to sign the order to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the late Robert F. Kennedy and Mr. Trump's nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services. The elder Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968, had served as U.S. attorney general, a senator from New York, and a Democratic presidential candidate.
He has instructed the director of national intelligence and the attorney general — both awaiting confirmation — to devise a plan within 15 days to release the JFK files. Following this, they will have 45 days to develop plans for releasing the RFK and MLK files.
