A new bill introduced in the US House of Representatives could kickstart negotiations for the US to purchase Greenland. The legislation, reportedly dubbed the Make Greenland Great Again Act, already received support by ten lawmakers.
The bill would allow President-elect Donald Trump to begin negotiations with Denmark for the purchase of Greenland immediately after taking office on January 20. If an agreement is reached, Trump would be required to submit the details to Congress within five days.
In a statement earlier this month, Trump reiterated his belief that Greenland should join the US for its strategic value, citing growing concerns about threats from Russia and China.
While Trump has suggested the US could buy Greenland before, his proposal was dismissed as absurd by both Greenlandic and Danish officials. However, the push continues, with some lawmakers backing the idea as a means to strengthen national security.
