Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Cairo on Thursday ahead of a two-day ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.
The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed Lavrov’s arrival on Telegram, noting that he is expected to hold discussions with several African counterparts on the sidelines of the forum. The ministry had previously announced on Wednesday that foreign ministers from all African states, along with heads of the continent’s integration bodies, had been invited to participate.
“Trade, economic cooperation, and investment will be at the centre of the second ministerial conference’s agenda,” the ministry said, adding that participants will also review progress on the action plan adopted during the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg in 2023 and identify concrete steps for its full implementation.
The discussions aim to prepare for the third Russia-Africa summit, scheduled for 2026, with the goal of achieving “a set of concrete achievements and new joint initiatives,” according to the statement. The venue for the next summit has not yet been announced.
