Four people have been killed and 14 injured after shots were fired at a child’s birthday party in Stockton, California. Police say the attack may have been targeted, but the investigation is still ongoing and no suspect has been identified.
The shooting happened during a child’s birthday party, according to Stockton’s vice mayor, Jason Lee, who confirmed the incident in a Facebook post.
“I am in contact with staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened, and I will be pushing for answers,” he wrote.
Police said officers were called shortly before 6 p.m. local time (0200 GMT) to the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said about 14 people were hit by gunfire and four victims were confirmed dead.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and early indications suggest the attack may have been targeted, though all possibilities remain under review.
No details have been released about a suspected shooter.
