A wedding caravan crash in Ethiopia’s Sidama region killed 71, including the bridegroom, as their truck plunged into a river on a steep, winding road.
A tragic accident in southern Ethiopia's Sidama region claimed 71 lives, including a bridegroom, when a wedding caravan crashed Sunday night, local authorities reported Monday.
The group was traveling to the bride's home when their truck veered off the steep, winding road near Bona Zuria and plunged into a river at Gelan Bridge. The Regional Police Commission confirmed that 68 men and 3 women died, while two others sustained critical injuries and are receiving treatment at Bona General Hospital.
Authorities cited the hazardous road conditions and the common practice of traveling on truck beds as factors contributing to the tragedy.
