Falling debris from a destroyed Ukrainian drone sparked a fire at a power substation in Kropotkin, Russia, which was quickly extinguished, authorities said.

The Krasnodar regional administration reported that a fire broke out at a Kropotkin power substation after debris from a downed Ukrainian drone struck the site.

"Preliminary reports indicate no injuries," the administration said on the Telegram messaging app.

The full extent of the damage remains unclear, and Reuters could not independently verify the incident.

Several southern and southwestern Russian regions were under air raid alerts for hours at a time overnight, according to information published on official regional Telegram channels.

Flight operations at airports in Saratov and Volgograd were temporarily halted for safety, according to Rosaviatsia.

Kyiv has not commented, but Ukraine says its strikes target infrastructure critical to Moscow’s war efforts, with both sides denying attacks on civilians since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
