Three men have been killed and nine others wounded in a gang-related shooting at a crowded nightclub in Brooklyn, despite New York City recording historic lows in gun violence this year.
Gunfire erupted shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday at Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights, where investigators believe up to four shooters opened fire with multiple weapons following a dispute, according to New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
“It’s a terrible shooting that occurred in the city of New York,” Tisch said at a news briefing, describing the incident as “a tragic, senseless act of violence.”
Police recovered at least 42 shell casings from both 9mm and .45-calibre firearms and discovered one weapon discarded on a nearby street.
A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other men — aged 35 and 27 — died after being taken to hospital. The nine wounded, aged between 19 and 61, were receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
