The U.S. Department of State has announced a new programme requiring citizens of Zambia and Malawi applying for tourist and business visas to post a bond of up to $15,000.

The policy, effective from 20 August, aims to deter visa overstays and reinforce compliance with U.S. immigration laws.

According to the official statement, applicants who meet all visa conditions and depart the United States within the authorised period will be refunded the full bond amount.

This measure is intended to reduce violations of visa terms and ensure stricter enforcement of immigration regulations.
