US President Donald Trump on Wednesday fiercely criticised some Republican colleagues who have questioned his administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
He labelled them “weaklings,” accusing them of falling for what he called a “hoax” pushed by Democrats.
Trump claimed that Republicans expressing concern over the Epstein case were effectively doing the Democrats’ work and ignoring his administration’s unprecedented achievements. On social media, he stated he no longer wanted their support.
Epstein, a wealthy financier facing charges of sex trafficking minors, died by suicide in jail in 2019. His case was subsequently closed.
Last week, Trump’s administration reversed a pledge to release documents related to Epstein, sparking discontent among his most loyal supporters.
The Justice Department’s investigation found no evidence that Epstein blackmailed prominent figures and confirmed he died by suicide.
Some Republicans have continued to demand the release of additional documents, but Democrats have blocked these efforts.
Trump defended Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the matter, affirming that any credible documents could be released.
He also expressed a desire to move on from the issue and focus on economic successes.
