The Kremlin says it is closely watching U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements after he expressed disappointment with his latest call with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the Ukraine war.

Trump, who previously claimed Putin was ready to end the conflict in Ukraine, changed tone after Thursday’s call, saying, “I didn’t make any progress with him at all.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declined to respond to Trump’s criticism but confirmed that Putin reiterated Russia’s preference for resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic means—though military operations would continue in the meantime.

Peskov also noted that Russia hopes to finalize a date soon for a third round of peace talks with Ukraine, following earlier negotiations in May and June.
