A football fan died after falling from the stands during the UEFA Nations League final between Portugal and Spain in Munich on Sunday night, UEFA has confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred during the first period of extra time when the fan fell from the central tier into the media section below at the Allianz Arena. Emergency services responded quickly, but the supporter succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
A UEFA spokesperson said the organization was "deeply saddened" by the incident.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente expressed condolences after the match: “My condolences to the family. It’s a very sad day.” Portugal coach Roberto Martinez called it "extremely sad news."
The cause of the fall remains unclear, and an investigation is underway.
