Aghdam’s Qarabag FK experienced a 6–1 defeat to England’s Newcastle United in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie in Azerbaijan's capital Baku Wednesday evening (18 February).

The match was played at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium, where the Premier League side delivered a dominant performance to take a commanding advantage into the return fixture.

Elvin Jafarguliyev scored Qarabag’s only goal in the 55th minute of the match.

The result leaves Newcastle in firm control of the tie ahead of the second leg.

The return legs will be held in England on 24–25 February.
