A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck Turkish Malatya province on Wednesday, damaging buildings but causing no fatalities, according to the country's disaster authority, AFAD.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that three buildings had partially collapsed, but no lives were lost.
The tremor was felt in Syria's Hasakah, Deir al-Zor, and Aleppo regions as well, according to the Syrian state news agency. The quake, centered in Kale district about 40 km east of Malatya city, occurred at 10:46 a.m. local time (07:46 GMT).
AFAD, alongside security forces, conducted inspections in several neighboring provinces including Diyarbakir, Sanliurfa, Elazig, Batman, and Tunceli. Hospitals in six provinces treated nearly 190 people for injuries, with 43 still under observation, Yerlikaya added.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported the quake at a magnitude of 6.1, occurring at a depth of 9 km.
