Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are stepping up efforts to expand cooperation across key sectors, with leaders from both countries meeting on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Turkmenistan’s deputy cabinet chair Nokerguly Ataguliyev on Tuesday to discuss ways to strengthen ties in trade, energy, transport, and water resource management.

Both sides agreed to shape a new agenda aimed at boosting economic integration and regional connectivity. Industrial cooperation and joint projects were high on the list, along with plans for a forum of regions and a series of upcoming business and cultural events.

The talks signal growing momentum in Uzbek-Turkmen relations, which both leaders described as rooted in friendship, being good neighbours, and having a strong strategic partnership.

According to official figures, bilateral trade hit $1.14 billion in 2024, continuing a steady upward trend between the two Central Asian neighbours.
