Iran's President makes debut

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to make his CIS debut, having been invited to an expanded session of the CIS Council of Heads of State. Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov called it a first in the bloc's history. The Iranian government said Pezeshkian will attend as a special guest. The visit gives Tehran a chance to strengthen ties with regional neighbours as tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain high.

Event culminates with leaders’ meeting on Friday

The week opens with a foreign ministers' meeting on Wednesday, followed on Thursday by a consultative meeting between Central Asian leaders and Azerbaijan. On Friday, the Council of Heads of State meet in Turkmenistan’s eastern resort town of Avaza. Turkmenistan holds the CIS chairmanship in 2026.

No Putin-Pashinyan meeting planned
