Prime Time: U.S.-Iran conflict and Azerbaijan-Germany ties

The 21 July edition of AnewZ's PrimeTime explored the escalating conflict between the U.S. and Iran, as both sides exchanged strikes for a tenth consecutive day and tensions spread across the Gulf.

Strategic partnership with Germany

The programme examined the growing risks to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the involvement of regional actors and the prospects for diplomatic de-escalation despite continued military action.

PrimeTime also focused on President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Berlin, where Azerbaijan and Germany agreed to deepen cooperation in energy, trade and investment.

The programme explored the launch of a bilateral economic council, Germany's interest in expanding gas imports from Azerbaijan and the prospects for the Middle Corridor.

Discussions also covered the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process and Azerbaijan's growing diplomatic role in regional affairs.

Global developments

The programme also rounded up major international stories, including the UK government's first policy priorities under Prime Minister Andy Burnham, ASEAN's response to the Middle East conflict, and tensions in the South China Sea.
