One person was killed and two seriously injured in a stabbing incident by a man with a sharp object at an electric utility company in south-central Germany, police said.

A 21-year-old German man was arrested on Tuesday after a deadly stabbing at the Ueberlandwerke Rhoen electric utility company in Mellrichstadt, a town in Bavaria. According to local police, an altercation broke out among employees involving a sharp object, resulting in the death of a 59-year-old woman. Two men, aged 55 and 62, were seriously injured.

Authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to the public and no evidence suggesting political or terrorist motivations behind the attack. The suspect, apprehended at the scene, is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

In response to the growing violence, police unions have urged the government to increase surveillance, staffing, and security measures nationwide.
