The European Council has extended its sectoral sanctions on Russia until January 31, 2026, in response to Russia’s continued destabilising actions in Ukraine.

The European Council announced on Monday that it would extend its sectoral sanctions on Russia for another six months, lasting until January 31, 2026.

The extended measures cover a broad range of sectors, including trade, finance, energy, technology, transport, and luxury goods. Notably, they include a ban on Russian seaborne oil imports, restrictions on major Russian banks’ access to the SWIFT banking system, and a suspension of Kremlin-backed media outlets in the EU.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas confirmed the extension on social media, reiterating the EU’s commitment to increasing pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
