U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is now "much further away from a nuclear weapon" following recent U.S. airstrikes on Tehran’s nuclear sites, contradicting reports that the damage only caused minor delays.

Marco Rubio said that U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities inflicted significant damage, pushing Tehran further from developing a nuclear weapon.

This statement comes after leaked reports citing U.S. intelligence suggested the strikes only delayed Iran’s nuclear program by a few months.

Both President Donald Trump and The White House rejected these reports, with Trump insisting the sites were completely destroyed.

Rubio called the media assessments false and said they failed to show the full impact of the strikes.

The comments come amid a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, following intense air attacks that began 13 June.
