Senior U.S. and Chinese officials convened in Geneva over the weekend for in-depth discussions aimed at easing the trade tensions between the two economic powerhouses.

High-level delegations from the United States and China met in Geneva, resuming talks to address the ongoing trade war that poses risks to the global economy, sources told Reuters.

On Saturday, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng engaged in an eight-hour meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. This marked their first in-person discussion since both nations imposed significant tariffs exceeding 100% on one another's goods.

Neither side disclosed details about the discussions or indicated substantial progress in lowering trade barriers as the talks concluded at the Swiss ambassador’s residence in Geneva.

Later, U.S. President Donald Trump described the meeting as constructive. “A very good meeting today with China, in Switzerland. Many things discussed, much agreed to,” he posted on his Truth Social platform, adding, “GREAT PROGRESS MADE!!!” without providing further specifics.

The talks were held at the U.N. ambassador's villa in the scenic Cologny suburb, chosen after Swiss officials facilitated the arrangement during visits to the U.S. and China.
