Three police officers were fatally shot in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s Dagestan region, according to preliminary reports from the local interior ministry.
The violence erupted when a driver opened fire after officers attempted to stop his vehicle, Dagestan’s leader Sergey Melikov confirmed. The assailants then fled the scene using a police car. Authorities later reported that two attackers were killed.
