A seven-year-old girl was found in cardiac arrest and later died after being stabbed at an elementary school in South Korea, an official from the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education said during a media briefing.
The girl was discovered on Monday (February 10) lying on the floor next to a teacher in the school’s audiovisual room, the official stated. She was a student at the school where the teacher worked, though police have not yet established any personal connection between them, according to a police official.
The girl was found by her grandmother after family members began searching for her. They had grown concerned upon learning that she had left class on Monday but did not board the private institute bus she was supposed to take, the education office official said.
The female teacher is currently being treated in hospital for self-inflicted wounds. According to the education office, she had previously taken a leave of absence for medical reasons but returned to work prematurely late last year.
