A technical incident occurred between the ASCO-owned tanker Kalbajar and the Turkish-flagged tanker Alatepe in waters off Istanbul, according to the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Closed Joint-Stock Company (ASCO).
ASCO stated that strong winds at the Küçükçekmece anchorage near Florya caused the Kalbajar’s anchor chain to become entangled with the propeller of the nearby Alatepe.
Following maritime safety procedures, port inspection teams were sent to the site to assess the situation.
Technical crews are currently working on both vessels, with operations underway to safely separate them.
ASCO added that the Kalbajar was not carrying any cargo at the time, and the situation is fully under control with no safety concerns for the crew.
Earlier, Istanbul’s coast guard reported receiving emergency signals from the two tankers, which fly the flags of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, near the Bakırköy–Florya coastline.
