US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Morgan Ortagus as deputy special presidential envoy for Middle East peace. She will work alongside real estate executive Steven Witkoff, who was named special envoy in November.
Trump praised Ortagus as a valuable addition to the team, expressing confidence in achieving "great results" for peace and stability in the region. Ortagus, formerly the State Department spokesperson from 2019 to 2021, called the appointment an honor and a "dream come true," emphasizing her commitment to advancing peace in the Middle East.
Prior to this role, Ortagus served as a financial intelligence analyst at the Treasury Department and as deputy Treasury attaché in Saudi Arabia.
