Croatians vote to elect a new president in a largely ceremonial role, with incumbent Zoran Milanovic leading polls against main challenger Dragan Primorac.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, backed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), narrowly missed a first-round win in Sunday’s presidential elections, leading his closest rival by around 30 points.
With 99.67% of votes counted, unofficial results show Milanovic at 49.1%, falling short of the 50% needed to avoid a run-off.
His opponent on 12th of January will be Dragan Primorac, the ruling HDZ’s candidate, who garnered 19.4%.
The SDP expressed mixed emotions, while HDZ called the second round a "fresh start," acknowledging the unexpected gap.
