Eduardo Pedrosa, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat, has underlined the importance of China’s upcoming priorities for the regional agenda ahead of the 2026 summit.
Speaking on the sidelines of the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju, Pedrosa said, “We will have to wait for the Chinese government to set out its priorities. We are looking for greater openness, a focus on innovation, and enhanced cooperation. Connectivity has been a key focus for China over the past decade, particularly across its rail network. What lessons can be drawn from their domestic processes? And in terms of trade, how has China’s trade evolved in recent years? What is China exporting now compared with 25 years ago? All our economies undergo change. The next plan and China’s hosting of APEC will provide valuable insights.”
China previously hosted the APEC summit in 2001 and 2014 and will welcome leaders again in 2026, marking a key moment for regional economic cooperation.
