U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa met in Washington on Thursday to discuss expanding military cooperation.

Hegseth welcomed the crown prince with an enhanced honor cordon at the Pentagon before holding closed-door talks focused on strengthening self-defense capabilities and shared regional interests.

“We’re eager to enhance our collective ability to respond to current challenges,” Hegseth said, describing the bilateral relationship as built on “a strong foundation of cooperation.”

Crown Prince Al Khalifa said Bahrain is committed to deepening defense ties and would outline its strategic needs during the visit. “We’re proud of the partnership and ready to work on ways to expand it,” he said.

The meeting followed high-level talks at the White House on Wednesday, where Crown Prince Al Khalifa announced plans to invest more than $17 billion in the U.S.
