The U.S. will begin applying increased tariff rates from 1 August, according to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

He said President Donald Trump is currently finalising the specific rates and agreements.

Earlier this year, the U.S. introduced reciprocal tariffs on most trading partners but paused them for 90 days starting 9 April to allow negotiations.

With the deadline approaching, talks are ongoing as countries try to secure better trade terms with the U.S.

When asked about the timing of tariff changes, Trump confirmed the new tariffs will go ahead and expects most countries to have deals or letters finalised by 9 July.

Last week, Trump said he plans to send letters to countries outlining their individual tariff rates.
