On Monday, a volcanic eruption at Mount Kanlaon in the central Philippines sent ash 4,000 meters into the sky.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised the alert level to 3, indicating an increased risk of lava flows and potentially dangerous eruptions within the coming weeks. The volcano, situated between Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental provinces, has already left homes and roads blanketed in ash. Emergency evacuations are currently in progress, with authorities warning that up to 54,000 people could be at risk.
