Azerbaijan, Afghanistan discuss transport-logistics cooperation prospects

Afghanistan looks set to expand its exports to Europe via Azerbaijan port and railway links with South Asia and the Caucasus, as well as integrating the country into multimodal transport networks such as the Middle Corridor.

The Middle Corridor is also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and connects China to Europe through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.

The move follows a recent meeting between Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) Chairman Rovshan Rustamov and Afghanistan's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Abdul Ghani Baradar, at the Baku Sea Port to discuss expanding freight transportation routes.

Afghan officials requested Baku's support in boosting exports of Afghan-made goods through the port, while ADY expressed its readiness to facilitate their delivery to European markets.
