Kazakhstan teams up with international agency to boost renewable energy

Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister met with International Renewable Energy Agencys Director General to discuss cooperation on renewable energy and the global energy transition.

During the International Forum in Astana, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov held talks with Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the global shift towards sustainable energy. They discussed expanding renewable energy development, decarbonizing Kazakhstan’s economy, and boosting technological partnerships.

Minister Akkenzhenov highlighted Kazakhstan’s strong potential in solar, wind, and hydropower, and reaffirmed the country’s goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2060 through attracting investment, adopting advanced technologies, and developing skilled professionals. IRENA supports nations worldwide in adopting renewable energy by providing research, facilitating knowledge exchange, and aiding sustainable energy transitions.
