Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have formally agreed to upgrade relations on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in the western Turkmen town of Awaza. Leaders from CIS countries are due to attend a Council of Heads of State meeting later on Friday.

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan formally boost relations 

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have established a Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership, which creates an institutional framework for strengthening political communication and increasing cooperation between the two countries. 

Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedow signed the agreement during a meeting on the sidelines of the CIS summit in the western Turkmen resort town of Awaza on Thursday.
