Trump declares victory in presidential election

Republican candidate Donald Trump has declared victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. 

Trump is projected to win after the key battleground states of North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia were called in his favour.

“This will truly be the golden age of America,” he said. 

“We’re going to help our country heal, we have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly.”

Trump praised Elon Musk for contributing around $120 million to his campaign He has previously said he'll appoint the CTO of X (formerly Twitter) to head a government efficiency commission.

“A star is born: Elon!” Trump said. 

Trump also emphasised what he claimed as a swift victory over ISIS:

"We defeated ISIS in record time, but we had no wars. [...] We’re going to stop wars,” he pledged.

Reaffirming a commitment from his first term, he promised to lead with the principle of "promises made, promises kept." Trump also appealed for unity:

“It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us. It’s time to unite.”

“We’re going to start by putting America first. We need to put our country first for a period of time,” he added.

His opponent, current Vice President Kamala Harris, postponed her election night speech, saying she would address her supporters only after the count was complete.
