Students in Belgrade organized a 24-hour blockade
On January 27, students in Belgrade organized a 24-hour blockade, halting traffic at major intersections as part of ongoing protests triggered by the fatal collapse at Novi Sad railway station in November.
The disaster, which claimed 15 lives, has sparked accusations of corruption, nepotism, and poor construction practices. Protesters are demanding swift legal action against those responsible, particularly officials associated with President Aleksandar Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party. The government, however, denies any culpability in the deaths.
The tragedy occurred when the newly renovated concrete awning at Novi Sad station collapsed on November 1, killing 14 people and injuring three, one of whom later succumbed to their injuries.
