Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a Sunday interview that he is considering a run for the U.S. presidency in 2028, adding that he will make a decision after the 2026 midterm elections.
A lawyer for California told a federal judge on Tuesday (12 August) that the Trump administration’s use of National Guard troops in Los Angeles during immigration enforcement operations was illegal, violating the Posse Comitatus Act (PCA), which restricts military involvement in civilian policing.
The Trump administration has directed around 2,000 California National Guard members to start demobilizing from their federal mission in Los Angeles, the Pentagon announced.
