Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that he expects to hear from U.S. negotiators soon after they conclude their meetings in Moscow, where discussions are focused on advancing a potential peace deal to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters in Dublin, Zelenskyy expressed optimism about the ongoing diplomatic efforts and reiterated his readiness to engage with U.S. President Donald Trump again, depending on the progress of the talks. “We are waiting for the results from Moscow, and I hope to hear from our American partners as soon as they return,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader’s comments come amid a renewed push for negotiations following recent meetings between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Florida, which both sides described as productive. Those discussions laid the groundwork for Washington’s broader peace framework, with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and other senior officials now in Moscow to meet Russian representatives.
Zelenskyy’s government has maintained that any peace deal must ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and security, warning against proposals that could reward Russia for its aggression. He also underscored that Kyiv remains in close contact with European partners, including France and Ireland, to ensure a united front as talks continue.
The outcome of the Moscow discussions will likely determine the next phase of diplomacy, including whether a follow-up meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump can take place in the coming weeks. For Kyiv, securing firm commitments from its Western allies remains key to shaping the terms of any eventual peace settlement.
