British police said on Saturday that two people were arrested after multiple passengers were stabbed on a train travelling to Huntingdon.

In a statement on X, British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were responding to "an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed," adding that they were working together with Cambridgeshire police. The force later clarified that the incident took place on the 6.25 pm GMT London-bound service from Doncaster to King’s Cross.

Cambridgeshire police said they were called at 7.39 pm GMT with reports of several people being injured. "A number of people have been taken to hospital," the force said, without giving an exact figure or details of the victims’ conditions.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack "appalling" and "deeply concerning," thanking emergency services and urging people to follow police instructions. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was "deeply saddened" by the reports and asked the public to avoid speculation at this early stage.

Train operator London North Eastern Railway said services on the route may be cancelled or face delays of up to an hour following the incident. Authorities said enquiries into the circumstances of the stabbing are ongoing and that further updates will be provided once confirmed.
