In a barbershop in Resende, in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, World Cup fever is going straight to fans' heads - literally. One barber is transforming hair into colourful tributes to the national team as supporters rally behind Brazil's latest bid for World Cup glory.
Barber Washington Santos has been turning hair into small works of football art, dyeing customers' heads in the green, yellow, blue and white of the Brazilian flag as the national team chases another World Cup title.
The 27-year-old said he came up with the idea after realising his online haircut videos were beginning to look too similar to everyone else's. With the World Cup under way, he decided to try something bolder by painting the Brazilian flag into a haircut.
"So, I'd been posting some videos online, some haircuts, but I was posting too many haircuts, similar to those by other barbers, and I realized they weren't really standing out. So I thought about creating something different. Since it was a World Cup year, I decided to make the Brazilian flag," Santos said.
The look has already caught on with local fans, especially children and teenagers. Santos said he has dyed the flag into the hair of around 30 customers this year.
One of them, 27-year-old Gleizyane Ritchely Silva de Souza, left the chair smiling and ready to put some pressure on the national team.
"We're doing our part now; the players have to do theirs," she said.
Santos first introduced the style during the 2022 World Cup, when videos of his flag-inspired haircuts began spreading online. Since then, he has expanded his designs to include other national flags, football club colours, spider webs and other patterns.
Brazil will face Norway in the World Cup Round of 16 on Sunday 5 July.
