Türkiye has issued 20,000 work visas to Afghan citizens for jobs in the livestock sector, the Turkish Embassy’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul said during talks with Afghanistan’s refugee minister on Wednesday.
Afghanistan’s Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Abdul Kabir, met Sadin Ayyildiz, chargé d’affaires at the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, on 13 May 2026.
The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, challenges facing Afghan refugees in Türkiye, humanitarian assistance and Afghanistan’s role in regional connectivity.
According to an official statement, Ayyildiz said Afghanistan holds special importance for the Turkish government.
“Alongside government assistance, a number of Turkish non-governmental organisations and institutions are also active in delivering aid to people in need and carrying out development work in Afghanistan,” he said.
Ayyildiz also said Ankara wants Afghanistan to become more stable and self-reliant.
“Türkiye supports a stable and self-reliant Afghanistan and believes Afghanistan has an important role in regional connectivity,” he said.
He added that Türkiye supports dialogue aimed at resolving Afghanistan’s challenges and continues its efforts in this regard.
“The Turkish government has issued work visas to 20,000 Afghan citizens in the livestock sector alone and is working to find solutions to irregular migration,” Ayyildiz said.
Abdul Kabir thanked Türkiye for its assistance and cooperation across different sectors. He said relations between Kabul and Ankara have always been based on mutual respect and cooperation.
The minister said Afghanistan now enjoys full security and stability, creating greater opportunities for the country to become an important part of regional connectivity.
He also called for stronger cooperation between the Afghan and Turkish private sectors.
According to the statement, Abdul Kabir referred to some of the difficulties faced by Afghan refugees in Türkiye and said Kabul supports their voluntary return.
At the end of the meeting, Abdul Kabir again thanked Türkiye for its mediation in talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and described Türkiye as a friendly country to Afghanistan.
