The U.S. has launched fresh strikes on Iran after Tehran targeted a container ship and said it had again closed the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also claimed to have expanded attacks on U.S. military facilities across the Gulf.
Around 20 commercial vessels have transited the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours in coordination with the U.S. military, Axios reported, citing a U.S. official.
The report added that several other commercial ships also passed through the strategic waterway without U.S. military coordination, despite heightened regional tensions.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces fired at commercial shipping transiting the Strait of Hormuz within the past hour, CNN reported, citing the U.S. military.
According to the report, U.S. aircraft intercepted and destroyed one Iranian cruise missile and a one-way attack drone.
There was no immediate comment from Iranian authorities.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said talks held in Muscat on Saturday (11 July) focused on managing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz but failed to produce an agreement.
Tehran claimed the United States, through pressure on Oman, prevented the sides from reaching a result on the issue.
Washington and Muscat have not immediately commented on the allegation.
A drone attack has targeted an Iranian Kurdish opposition camp in Iraq's eastern Sulaymaniyah province, according to security sources.
