U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to seize Kharg Island and other major Iranian oil and gas facilities, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: "At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points."

Kharg Island is Iran's main oil export terminal and a critical hub for the country's energy industry.

Trump also threatened to take control of Iran's oil and gas markets, drawing a comparison with U.S. policy towards Venezuela.

He said the U.S. had effectively taken over Venezuela's oil and gas markets and claimed the arrangement was "working out brilliantly" for both Caracas and Washington.

This is a developing story.
